PIR Insulation – Being Environmentally Friendly

Insulation materials used in construction to insulate buildings are helpful in reducing energy bills. Of the various types of material used, PIR or polyisocyanurate is considered one of the most efficient. Its excellent features make it the ideal material to use for insulation. Using a PIR insulation board is also recommended since it is environment-friendly.

What is PIR?

PIR is derived from polyurethane. Polyisocyanurate is thermally more stable and also fire-resistant. This is why PIR is preferred for insulation. It is usually made in the form of boards and is used in wall cavities, metal panels, and as plasterboard.

A significant benefit of PIR is it needs only half the thickness that other insulation boards require. It is flame-resistant and smoke resistant. It can slow the spread of fire and also reduce smoke. This makes it a preferred choice for insulation.

Using PIR

PIR insulation is usually available as boards. They may be laced with foil, so they prevent moisture from passing through. It is produced by blowing agents like foam insulation before making it into a board. Using PIR is preferred because it is simple and easy to use. All that is needed is to cut it to the size needed.

They can be used anywhere in the building. There are specific products meant for removing thermal bridges in cavities. They can be used for interior and exterior wall insulation. Plywood made from PIR can be used in flat roofs for insulation. When used in a pitched roof, they are installed between joists.

They can also be fitted within studs when installed as timber wall insulation. There are popularly used for general insulation, thanks to their ease of use and excellent insulation property. There are two key factors that make it popular for use in insulation.

  1. Low thermal conductivity.
  2. Durability in performance.

PIR is an environment-friendly material

Most people spend too much on energy bills. In most cases, the spending is because they are not implementing measures to save energy. Insulating the house is a simple way of saving on energy bills. Here is where PIR can be helpful. Using PIR for insulation helps in reducing energy bills. If every house can have PIR insulation, it would help in bringing down energy consumption.

It is thus beneficial for the environment. Using too much energy is not good for the environment. It is also not sustainable. In view of the energy crisis, there is a dire need to cut down on energy consumption. A simple and cost-effective way of doing this is by using insulation made from PIR. The thermal performance can be retained for a long time when PIR is used.

It is lightweight and easy to use making it a preferred choice. Since it reduces the labor needed for installation, it can help in reducing overall building costs. It has no fibers and doesn’t cause health issues (breathing problems). All the benefits have made PIR a great choice for insulation material. It is a sustainable choice that would benefit the world around us.
